Have you ever encountered quality problems when purchasing ceramic tiles?
Does rework and rights protection give you a headache?
Have you ever thought about nipping possible problems in the bud before purchasing?
Today, Zhongtaojun will explain to you in detail the five most common quality problems of ceramic tiles - most of which can be identified with the naked eye and help you effectively avoid pitfalls.
Color difference
The color difference of ceramic tiles generally refers to the difference in color, gloss, etc. between one brick and another.
Since the raw material quality of wall and floor tiles cannot be kept constant, and each batch of products will be affected by external influences during the production process, resulting in parameter changes (such as boiler temperature, etc.), the color difference problem is unavoidable at the production end and can only be Control and reduce.
During the inspection process, some ceramic tile manufacturers manually group tiles (color numbers) according to the degree of color difference. However, because the human eye is easily disturbed by a variety of factors (such as light, mental state, fatigue, etc.), separation often occurs. Inaccurate color; some ceramic tile manufacturers have also introduced online fully automatic wall and floor tile color separation systems to replace manual labor. Although it cannot guarantee that each batch of products is 100% color-free, it can basically effectively solve this problem.
Under normal circumstances, under appropriate and uniform lighting, if the paving area of the same batch of products exceeds 10 square meters and no obvious color difference is visible, and does not affect the aesthetics, it can be regarded as having no color difference. If you encounter serious color differences in the same batch of products you purchased, it is recommended to apply for after-sales treatment.
In the process of purchasing tiles, the calculation of the amount of tiles is that it is better to buy more and return it later, rather than wait to replenish it when it is not enough. If you cannot replenish products from the same batch, the chance of encountering color difference problems will also increase.
Yin Yang color
The yin and yang colors of ceramic tiles mostly refer to the differences in color and gloss on both sides of the same tile. Some people also classify it as a color difference problem, but the causes of the two are also different.
The phenomenon of yin and yang color often occurs when the bricks are thicker and thinner, the amount of water sprayed is more and less, and the polishing depth is deeper and shallower. At this time, the manufacturer can control the average thickness difference of the bricks, the water spray volume of the water tank to maintain uniformity on both sides, and the polishing depth to maintain uniformity on all four sides.Balance, etc., to avoid this problem.
Excessive cross-sectional temperature difference, inconsistent cross-sectional pressure and air flow in the kiln will also lead to different color development of ceramic tiles. High-temperature over-burning will appear bluish-white, while low-temperature under-burning will appear light red. The deformation of the product will cause the brick surface to be uneven, which will also cause the uneven grinding amount during polishing to form yin and yang colors. This yin and yang color mostly appears as large or small patterns on the left and right sides or the front and back sides, or the lines on one side are unclear.
Yin and yang color can be said to be a lower technical error than color difference, so most ceramic tile products (high-quality products) on the market rarely have such problems. The problem of yin and yang color of ceramic tiles is mainly caused by improper construction during the paving process, such as uneven and insufficient soaking in water.
In addition, the gradient design and pattern design of many ceramic tile products can be mistaken for yin and yang colors. Consumers can identify whether it is a quality problem by checking the flatness of the tiles and the color uniformity of the base. You just need to be careful. If you feel that there are "flaws" in the obvious beauty of the ceramic tiles or you are not satisfied with them, it is not recommended to buy them regardless of whether they are quality problems or not. After all, when buying building materials for decoration, pleasing to the eye is the most basic requirement.
Pinhole
Pinholes in ceramic tiles mainly refer to pinprick-like holes visible to the naked eye on the surface of the product.
During the production process, small bubbles emerge from the bottom layer of the glaze and turn into pinholes. The size of these pinholes is generally between 0.03~0.5mm, which is just within the range visible to the naked eye (anything larger is glaze bubbles ). There are many reasons for pinholes, which are generally divided into three situations: pinhole defects caused by the green body, pinhole defects caused by glaze, and pinhole defects caused by craftsmanship and accidental factors during the production process.
In short, the presence of pinholes not only affects the appearance, but also affects the mechanical properties and water resistance of the product itself, which directly affects the product quality and user experience. It may increase the water absorption rate of the ceramic tile, or affect the antifouling performance of the product. Ceramic tiles that have been used for a long time will appear stains and dust, resulting in spots and black spots. The culprit is this inconspicuous pinhole.
Therefore, when purchasing ceramic tiles, be sure to look carefully and choose ceramic tiles with too many small pinholes carefully. If you don't know how to identify whether there are pinholes in ceramic tiles, you can pour colored ink on the surface of the tiles, wait for a few minutes and then wipe it off. If there are no traces at all, you can check for pinholes.
Spot
The spots on ceramic tiles can be divided into black spots and yellow spots. The spots that are cave-like are called molten holes.
The main reason for this defect is the presence of impurities in the green body, which remain in the tiles after high-temperature firing. The problem of spots is more obvious than pinholes and easier to identify. The spot problem of ceramic tiles should be checked before laying as much as possible, otherwise it will be very troublesome.
In addition, there is another possibility of spots, which is corrosive porcelain caused by the use of glue in painting, painting or woodworking after the tiles are laid. Therefore, after the ceramic tiles are laid, a layer of cover should be added to the ground to prevent the laid tiles from being damaged during subsequent decoration processes.
Crack
Cracks mostly refer to cracks on the surface of ceramic tiles or even cracks in the brick body.
Similar to the occurrence of spots, this is also divided into two situations: cracks during the production process and cracks during use. The main reason for cracks during the production process is that the pressure applied during granulation is too high, making the particles too dense, and the difference between the firing shrinkage of the base material and the base material is too large, resulting in cracks. The reasons for cracking during use are complicated. It may be due to quality problems in the tiles themselves, improper construction by workers, or even instability of the building or deformation of the wall.
Cracks can be said to be the most common type of ceramic tile quality disputes, and they are difficult to guard against. If the tiles are cracked due to wall deformation, they will usually appear as regular horizontal, vertical or diagonal cracks; if caused by improper construction, the cracks will usually be accompanied by hollowing and falling off.
In addition, ceramic tiles and caulking agents will expand and contract with heat, so appropriate gaps should be reserved when paving; caulking agent is a tough, low-strength flexible product that compensates for the thermal expansion of ceramic tile products. The defects of cold shrinkage can avoid cracking to a certain extent.
